White paper boat pin, made of leather."I just think you need to discover yourself," he says.

"Discover myself?" I look down at my hands; twist my necklace around my fingers. "I don't think I know how to do that..." ...and I don't really know much about myself in the first place, I think quietly.

"Perhaps that's why you need to."

My head jolts up again. Apparently, I hadn't thought that.

He gives me a gentle smile before continuing. "Earlier, you were talking about snow. Ahead of you, you can see footprints. Some paths are well-trodden; others aren't, but feel impossible to transverse. You aren't exactly sure where you want to go, and you don't want to get laughed at if you slip." I nod, keeping my eyes fixed downwards, listening. "Discovering yourself is like covering all those footprints with a fresh blanket of snow. You're free to explore as you please, without feeling embarrassed by your progress or pressured into following a certain path. Every footprint you make is yours, and you are your only competition. What lies ahead is yours to discover."

Our space is quiet for a little while. The gears in my head whirr.

"I... still don't think I'd know how to do that," I respond quietly.
"Then perhaps that's the first step you need to take," he smiles.
